Rave Reads of the Year – 4

Welcome to Rave Reads of the Year – 4. This month I invite author friends to share one of their Rave Reads of 2025. Today’s choices come from Della Galton, Brian Price and Gillian Walker. #RaveReads2025

Della Galton’s Race Read:

A Twist of Amethyst by Essie Foxford

One of my favourite reads this year was Essie Foxford's debut novel. A Twist of Amethyst is a real feel good romantasy. I have to admit this isn't a genre I'm very familiar with although I did recently read Fourth Wing too and loved it. But A Twist of Amethyst really hooked me. Its main character Amethyst is shocked when first her brother, then her father and finally her mother goes missing and she sets out on a quest to find them. In the process she discovers some very strange goings on. Yes, genies exist, no, you can never quite believe what you see, and she is more powerful than she ever realised.

Della Galton writes feelgood fiction for Boldwood including the Puddleduck Farm series of Romcoms. Her latest is A New Family at Puddleduck Farm

Brian Price’s Rave Read:

The Final Vow by M.W. Craven

An unstoppable assassin is shooting people, apparently at random, and the case is handed over to Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw’s NCA Serious Crimes Analysis Section, since no-one else seems to have a clue. The death toll mounts and when Poe is told that Tilly has fallen victim to the killer he all but disintegrates. With nail-biting suspense, terrific action, brilliant dialogue, and humour, M.W. Craven has surpassed himself.

Brian Price is the author of the DC Mel Cotton police thrillers, the latest being Fatal Shot.

Gillian Walker’s Rave Read:

Sunrise on the Reaping by Susanne Collins

I waited for months in a queue with the digital library for this book because I enjoyed the Hunger Games movies, and the character of Haymitch. When the book arrived (sooner than expected) it made me cry. And realise that I hadn’t read the original Hunger Games books (I have now). Aside from the familiar Hunger Games format, I was entranced by how the Haymitch I knew from the films grew from the character in Sunrise on the Reaping.

Gillian Walker writes all forms of fiction. Her novella-in-flash is The World at the End of the Garden.
