Front Page Fridays Week-31
Front Page Fridays Week-31
Welcome to Front Page Fridays Week-31. On Fridays I showcase the first page of a brand-new book.
My Front Page Fridays Week-31 guest is Amanda Brittany and her forthcoming psychological thriller, Let Me Out, published by Boldwood Books on 29th June.
Here’s the opening:
PROLOGUE
SIX WEEKS AGO
Elliot
The painful thud against my chest forces me to the cliff edge. Stumbling, earth crumbling under my boots, I try to get my balance, but it’s never going to happen. My body arcs backwards over the ridge. I cry out, arms flailing, grabbing air with useless fingers, fear fracturing all hope as I fall, eight words jabbing my brain:
I should have stayed away from Sycamore House.”
CHAPTER 1
NOW
Annie
‘How did I get here?’
This is my latest thing. Talking to myself. ‘I don’t mean physically,’ I go on, voice muffled by the duvet over my head. ‘I know how I ended up here, alone at thirty, in a flat in Greenwich with a mould problem that aggravates my chest. Basically, I can’t afford anything better in London on my salary. Junior doctors just aren’t paid enough.’ So, when I say how did I get here, I mean mentally. Though, it has to be said, physically I’m not in a great place either. My gym membership expired in 2015, and the closest I get to healthy eating is the strawberries in my breakfast jam.”
About the Book
Annie has avoided returning to her hometown of Ridgewater since the terrible night twelve years ago when her childhood best friend, Giselle, lost her life. But now Annie’s brother has been injured in an accident identical to Giselle’s, and she knows she must go back.
Giselle’s mother – still living in the house next door to Annie’s family – is as creepy as ever, consumed with the memories of her dead daughter. Natalie, another of Annie’s old friends, is similarly obsessed, desperate to uncover the truth of what really happened that night.
Then Annie and Natalie discover that another girl went missing in Ridgewater around that time. Could Annie’s brother be involved? And was there really a voice calling ‘let me out’ from behind a locked door?
As the connection between Annie’s family and the tragedy twelve years before starts to emerge, things grow more sinister – and Annie’s own safety comes under threat.
Is Ridgewater about to claim another victim?
