Hilly Barmby’s Rave Read
The Nevsky Prospekt by Denise Beddows
If you enjoyed Slow horses, The Nevsky Prospekt is the perfect book for you. Author Denise Beddows has a background in research and intelligence analysis and this is evident throughout the book. Having taken early retirement from a career which took her to twenty countries across four continents, she nowadays writes, as Denise Beddows, crime/spy thrillers and true crime, and, as DJ Kelly, biographical fiction and local history. I have now read two of her books and thoroughly enjoyed both, the other being The Kohat Connection.
Hilly Barmby is a psychological thriller writer and you can find her books here.
Jo Furniss’s Rave Read
I’m so happy that The Red Shore the first in a new series. I’ll happily spend more hours in this Devonshire fishing village with these characters, especially a rather attractive DS Eden Driscoll. This is a deeply accomplished and satisfying thriller that does exactly what good crime fiction should - makes you think about our society and our responsibilities. The plot is pacy, the cast is compelling, the setting is sharp. It is funny, sad, shocking - but always riveting - I keep saying this about William Shaw novels, but this one is his best yet!
Jo Furniss writes crime novels, including Dead Mile - a murder mystery set in a traffic jam on the motorway - and her latest thriller, Guilt Trip.
Eva Glyn’s Rave Read
The Women at Ocean's End by Faith Hogan
I love stories of friendship and there is a real magic to this one, perhaps because the tensions which drive the novel forwards are not between the women, but around them. And Faith Hogan is such a skilled writer, mistress of her genre, and for me this wonderfully uplifting book is her best yet. Eva Glyn writes stories of friendship and romance set mainly in Croatia, including The Dubrovnik Book Club.
