Spotlight on Jo Furniss
Spotlight on Jo Furniss
It’s a challenge for me as an author with a new pen name to gain visibility so I’m grateful to several talented and respected authors – some I know personally; some I don’t know at all – who provided wonderful early reviews of An Ordinary House.
As a thank you to them for taking time out of their busy schedules to read and write about my book, I’m featuring each author on my blog with a spotlight on their work.
Crime thriller writer, Jo Furniss, was a BBC newsreader, reporter and producer in radio and TV. She also worked as a magazine journalist and book editor. After 15 years living in Singapore, Switzerland and Cameroon, she’s now based on the south coast of England.
Her latest title is Killer Twist, a clever, witty and twisty whodunnit set at a crime fiction festival. I was privileged to read an early copy, and I gave a blurb quote: “Yellowface meets Magpie Murders in a big, bouncy blaze of twisty mystery and deadpan humour. I can't stop smiling when I think about this pacy, pizzazz-packed whodunnit.”
When a celebrity author is murdered at a crime writing festival, a Scandinavian writer of Nordic noir and an English 'crim-ance' novelist form an unlikely team to catch the killer of a man they both love to hate.
Crime writer Aggie Catchlove can never forget how celebrity author Kit Stirling stole her famous 'twist'. At the Crème de la Crime festival, fellow novelist Jakob Hök learns that Kit's next book is a rip-off of his long-running Nordic Noir series. Jakob and Aggie furiously plot the perfect fictional murder of a man who is killing their careers. But when Kit Stirling is found dead for real, fingers point at Aggie and Jakob.
They decide the only way to clear their names is to investigate. As the police lock down the event, Aggie and Jakob split up to double their efforts, but paranoia is a third wheel that destabilises their alliance. Both writers want to tell the story, not be the story. And, when push comes to shove, they'll do anything to be the voice of the final chapter.

Jo Furniss had this to say about An Ordinary House:
“Dark, gripping and imaginative, An Ordinary House explores the kindness and cruelties of ordinary people. Starling delivers a deeply unsettling read that spans the worst and best of humanity, the horror and the hope, and these extremes won’t let you put it down. A truly psychological thriller.”
