Front Page Fridays Week-48

Front Page Fridays Week-48

Welcome to Front Page Fridays Week-48. On Fridays I showcase the first page of a new book.

My Front Page Fridays Week-48 guest is Linda Huber with her brand-new psychological suspense novel, Missing… Rose Malone.

Here’s the opening:

Missing… Rose Malone

It was a grey day, and Tallerton Community Care car park was cheerless to match. Rose Malone inched her elderly Corsa into a tight space at the back and switched off the engine. Dismal concrete cube to her left, slate-coloured high metal fencing to the right and in front a grafitti-laden wall that opened onto a grey street – it was by far the least attractive place she'd ever worked in. But that didn't matter. She swung the rear mirror round for a quick check of her short dark curls and – well. Here she was, day one of her brand new job and back to the beginning, as far as her life went. She’d grown up in Tallarton and after eight years away, she’d returned to her roots.

She stared up at the building. This wasn't where she'd actually be working, fortunately. A carer’s job was to go out into the community to help people cope with daily life in their homes, sometimes after an operation or illness, often because they were old. It was the kind of job where you could make a huge difference to someone’s life just by helping them get dressed and making them poached egg on toast for breakfast.

Rose shivered. She was good at her job; she knew she was because the clients often told her so, but it was hard, sometimes, watching someone suffer after a stroke, or pneumonia, or just because they were old. You didn’t recover as fast when you were eighty, and it was tough for the relatives, too. If there were any. And if there weren’t, it was even tougher.

About Missing… Rose Malone:

Missing. Vanished. Gone?

Josiane Kent is worried. Her friend Rose has posted zero photos on social media all week, despite being on holiday in Edinburgh, the most photogenic city ever. Not only that, she isn’t answering her phone. Something isn’t right. Josiane, along with Rose’s on-off boyfriend Matt and Val, Rose’s boss, starts investigating.

Meanwhile, lone wolf Eddie is mourning his grandad. Grandad always made sure Eddie kept his demons under control, but now, no one is helping and the demons are out.

Rose’s friends continue their search, but it isn’t until human remains are found in Grandad’s old garden that they realise what could have happened to Rose…
