Rave Reads of the Year – 10

This month I invite author friends to share one of their Rave Reads of the Year. Today’s choices come from A.A. Abbott, Anita Faulkner and AJ Aberford.

AA Abbott’s Rave Read

Secrets by Nelly Harper

Sizzling with suspense, deception, and a battle for survival, Nelly Harper's Secrets is a thrilling read. Imagine a world like our own, but where the rulers are evil Oligarchs. Where magic exists but is banned. And where a pair of teenagers uncover a secret that could start a revolution - if it doesn't kill them first. My review is here.

AA Abbott writes psychological thrillers about women finding strength in the face of danger, such as 'fast-paced page-turner' Lies Between Friends.

Anita Faulkner’s Rave Read

Time for Tuscany by Susie Sharp

Oh my goodness – this story. It was absolutely enchanting. If you want to escape to the Tuscan sun with stunning descriptions, whimsical writing and a few unexpected twists – this is your place.

Anita Faulkner writes warm and witty romcoms set in the Cotswolds. Her festive novel – The Gingerbread Café – is currently just 99p on eBook (or free on Kindle Unlimited).

AJ Aberford’s Rave Read

All We Can Know by Ian McEwan

This futuristic novel presents a post-apocalyptic world in which a nuclear-war tsunami has swept away vast landmasses, leaving England as a flooded, Dalí-esque landscape. Before the tsunami, a circle of poets and literary types gathered for a birthday party where a masterful, original poem was read, and the only copy then disappeared without a trace.

One hundred years later, the plot shifts to centre on a scholar's search for the lost poem. The narrative springs to life when shocking disclosures unfold, revealing the complex backstories and "self-inflicted catastrophies" of the poet and his birthday-dinner guests. This shift transforms the book from a story about the past and the future, of modern liberalism, into a clever literary thriller with a satisfying final twist.

AJ Aberford is the author of the 6-book Maltese detective series featuring Inspector George Zammit.
