Front Page Fridays Week-51

Front Page Fridays Week-51

Welcome to Front Page Fridays Week-51. On Fridays I showcase the first page of a new book.

My Front Page Fridays Week-51 guest is Amanda Brittany with her brand-new psychological thriller, The Girls of Maple Close, published on 13th April by Boldwood Books.

‍ ‍

Here’s the opening:

Prologue

2015

Zara Landen slid her finger down the flat of the blade. Calm, despite the rush of adrenalin soaring through her body. It was time to take back control.

As she slipped the knife into her rucksack – the mask and hooded black robe already tucked deep inside – the sharp blade nicked her flesh. A blood bubble oozed through her skin.

The girls would bleed later.

She had never wanted to harm a living thing before the girls of Maple Close ruined her life. Never trod on ants or bashed the life out of flies with glossy magazines. She’d hugged trees, felt sad for hours after seeing roadkill, couldn’t watch wildlife programmes where lions chased their prey.

But these girls had darkened her soul. Bullied her. Tortured her. They needed to be punished.

You mustn’t feel guilty. They deserve it. Tit for tat.

Rising from the edge of her bed, she slung her rucksack across her shoulders, and took the stairs down from her bedroom. ‘Going to Neville’s. Won’t be long,’ she called, keeping things normal.

Before her mum could appear from the lounge to tell her not to be late for dinner, remind her she was only seventeen, ask her if she’d done her homework, blah blah blah, she’d pushed her feet into her cheap trainers and flown through the front door, letting it slam closed behind her.

Tonight, everything would change forever.

About The Girls of Maple Close

Eleven years ago, Maple Close was scarred by a horrific crime.

Three teenage girls who lived on the secluded cul-de-sac were mutilated and killed in what became known as The Wise Monkey Murders. Their neighbour, seventeen-year-old Zara, was found guilty. Incarcerated in a psychiatric facility, she hasn’t spoken since.

Now, true-crime podcaster Daisy retreats to her grandfather’s home on the close, following a brutal attack. But she can’t lie low for long. Zara’s mother has never believed her daughter capable of such violent crimes, and wants Daisy’s help.

Reluctantly, Daisy begins to dig into the dark history of Maple Close and its residents for a new podcast series... and soon uncovers secrets that were buried for a reason.

Someone is watching her. Someone knows she’s getting too close.

And someone will do anything for revenge.

Because in Maple Close, the past isn’t finished with Daisy.

And neither is the killer...
