Front Page Fridays Week-61

‍ Front Page Fridays Week-61

‍ ‍Welcome to Front Page Fridays Week-61. On Fridays I showcase the first page of a new book.

‍ ‍My Front Page Fridays Week-61 guest is Natalie Kleinman with her brand-new contemporary romance, Come Fly With Me.

‍ ‍Here’s the opening:

‍ ‍‍PROLOGUE

‍ ‍‍Olivia closed her eyes and tried to block out the sight of the runway racing past the window. It was a long way from New York to London.

‍ ‍She felt like the terrified four-year-old she’d been twenty years ago when her parents had treated her to a fairground ride on a bright yellow plastic plane. Feet on the ground again, she’d promptly been sick. It had taken every ounce of willpower, even after all this time, to summon up the courage to fly. It seemed such an unnatural thing to her, to be trapped inside a metal tube for hours on end, travelling at high speed from one continent to another. And why didn’t it fall out of the sky? And why didn’t it crash when it landed?

‍ ‍Oh, God! She still had that bit to go through, and her stomach did a double lurch as she opened her eyes just in time to see the plane lift off the ground. She could see cars on the perimeter road becoming ever smaller until they resembled ants frantically rushing to and from their nest. And then she couldn’t see the cars any more. And then she couldn’t see the road. And there were deep indentations where her nails had dug hard into her hands.

‍ ‍There was no turning back. But what was waiting for her on the other side of the ocean? She didn’t know. All she knew was that she had to find out.

‍ ‍“First time?”

‍ ‍“Excuse me?” she asked the stranger sitting next to her.

‍ ‍“Never flown before? Don’t worry. That’s the worst bit over.”

‍ ‍“Landing?”

‍ ‍“I’ll hold your hand,” he said, offering his own. “I’m Dan Pearce.” His hand felt warm and firm in hers. Reassuring somehow.

‍ ‍“Olivia Croft. And yes, it is my first time, and I’m terrified.”

‍ ‍What Dan didn’t know was that for Olivia the destination was as frightening as the journey. That somewhere, hundreds of miles ahead but just a few hours away, her mother was waiting. Her real mother. The one she’d been led to believe had died in childbirth.

‍ ‍Her birth.

‍ ‍

About Come Fly With Me:

‍ ‍Adopted as a baby and raised in the USA, Olivia Croft is stunned when she discovers that the mother she thought had died in childbirth is alive — and has been searching for her for twenty years. But she’s on the other side of the Atlantic, and to meet her Olivia must conquer her lifelong fear of flying…

Being on a plane is just as terrifying as Olivia expected. But when a handsome stranger comes to her assistance, she’s buoyed by his quiet kindness — and, to her surprise, by the flutter of something more.

In the sleepy Cotswolds town of Cuffingham, she finds a warm welcome with her birth mother Hannah Marshall and a whole new family she never knew existed. Dan Pearce, meanwhile, can’t stop thinking about the shy stranger he met on the plane.

When their paths cross again, the connection neither of them expected begins to deepen. But life has a way of complicating even the most hopeful beginnings, and Olivia soon learns how fragile happiness can be.

Will Olivia find the courage to embrace her newfound family and the future she never planned? Can she and Dan prove that what began by chance might be strong enough to last?

And when a shocking event threatens to pull them apart, will love be enough to keep them together?
